The goal of the workshop was to learn and work out new and innovative teaching methods. One of the topics was "Sea". The instructions have been introduced to the wider public through an environmental education magazine, web site and TV.

Description

The workshop was built up as a method´s fair. At first some people introduced new and innovative teaching methods to the ohter participants. Inspired from the presentations four working groups worked out their own methods on four different issues, out of which one was „The Sea”. This group focused to the senses of the learners as tools of learning. Goal of the exercise was to introduce to the pupils diversity of the sea life, use and develop their senses, lead the pupils to the better understanding of the people with limited seeing.

The instruction proposes a student group to go to the sea by boat. They are asked to tie their eyes down and use different senses when smelling odor of the sea; being all ears on sounds; feeling out fish scales, feathers, stones with different size, gravel, sand, clay, etc. The pupils are asked to describe what they feel. This instruction involves elements of outdoor learning, but also leads young people to the better understanding of disabled people.

All four new instructions were briefly described in writing and introduced to the ohter teachers through
